Glad Tidings, etc.
Hey Friends,
A couple of updates, might as well get straight to them!
LeVar Burton Reads!
My story “The Lady of the Yellow-Painted Library” was read by the inimitable LeVar Burton on his podcast! I remain truly gobsmacked about this. This story was initially published in Africa Risen, and to be honest I didn’t think it was all that. But the reception has been astounding! (I have had readers properly frightened into returning overdue library books, or otherwise saddled with a newfound respect of librarians. It even got a shout out on national TV!) All this to say, I am a poor judge of my own work and I shouldn’t listen to the voices in my head. It’s available anywhere you listen to podcasts. Do give it a listen, preferably alone, in a dark room, with the door locked. LeVar’s narration is nothing short of masterful, and the sound effects bring this deliciously creepy tale to life!
Jackal, Jackal
My debut collection is out from Undertow Publications. It contains all the stories I’ve had previously published in various magazines—the stories that have made my career—but also two new stories. I’m really excited about this and can’t wait for you all to have the book at hand. It’s one of Fantasy Hive’s most anticipated releases of 2023, and Book Riot’s 11 Speculative Short Story Colllections to look forward to in 2023 alongside collections from luminaries like Kelly Link, Suzan Palumbo and Premee Mohamed!
Peep the cover!
You know that saying “never judge a book by it’s cover?” Bullshit. We all judge books by their covers (as you well should) and Undertow never misses with their covers. The wildly talented Vince Haig is to be held responsible for this one and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Jackal, Jackal is already up on GoodReads so please please please add it to your Want To Read. This really helps! Preorder links will go up late March or early April. Either way, watch this space for the announcement!
Other Book News
I’ve been sitting on this for *counts fingers* five months now! In September of last year I sold a book! A duology! To a publisher whose name may or may not rhyme with “door”. My journey has been long and filled with countless setbacks. It took two agents and several books to get to this point, and now I’ll have three books released in two years! But when it rains, it pours, I guess.
The announcement will go up really soon.
That’s all the news for now. Until next time.
